English Subs: The Pupil (De Pupil)
Daan (12), the third of four soccer-loving brothers, looks up to his coach Ries (35). He draws Daan into a secret, forbidden world of adults, and that marks the beginning of repeated sexual abuse.
Ries increasingly influences Daan’s life. Daan begins to behave differently, skips school, and becomes distant with his family and friends. When the truth comes out, Daan is overwhelmed by shame and faces uncomfortable and sometimes cruel reactions from those around him. Loosely based on the autobiographical book Je ogen verraden je by Steven van der Hoeven.
