At Pasvik Folk High School in Norway, a group of teenagers chooses an unconventional gap year: no classroom lessons or screens, but dog sledding, surviving in the Arctic wilderness, and learning to trust each other — and a loyal pack of Alaskan huskies.
Oscar-nominated filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady follow the young people on the threshold of adulthood. Uncertainty and resistance slowly transform into personal growth, self-confidence, and a deeper connection with nature and each other. In Folktales, the filmmakers show how today’s young people rediscover themselves amid the breathtaking landscape and harsh conditions of the far North.
